Wailuku, Hawaii, May 13, 2017 — Garrett Okamura, 35, of Wailuku, shot a even-par 72 during Saturday’s 2017 U.S. Open Local Qualifier conducted by the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association and the USGA, held at King Kamehameha Golf Club in Wailuku under very difficult scoring conditions. He took the lone qualifying spot and will move on to the sectional stage of qualifying. The championship will be contested at Erin Hills in Erin, WI., from June 12-18. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
