Honolulu, Hawaii, May 15, 2017 —Toru Nakajima , 32, of Japan, shot a 4-under-par 68 during Monday’s 2017 U.S. Open Local Qualifier conducted by the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association and the USGA, at the challenging Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, HI. The field consisted of 46 players and Nakajima was one of three players to earn a spot to play in the sectional stage of qualifying. The championship will be contested at Erin Hills in Erin, WI., from June 12-18.
Also qualifying was: Jirou Minamizaki, 47, of Japan who shot one under 71, and Joshua DeFreitas, 21, of Waianae shot even par 72.
The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
