With our trade winds back and nice sunny conditions in the 80’s, HSGA hosted their 2017 U.S. Senior Open Sectional qualifier at beautiful Hoakalei Country Club in Ewa Beach, HI on the island of Oahu.
With 26 players and only one player broke par to qualify for our one spot to get into this USGA National Championship. PGA Member John Hearn of Oahu Country Club bested the field by 2 shots with a 1-under par 71 to tee it up with the “big boys” on June 29-July 2, 2017 at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Massachusetts. Low Amateur honors went to Mike Kawate of Aiea, HI with a very respectable 76 to beat the next closest amateur by 2 strokes.
A big Mahalo to Hoakalei Country Club for hosting this event and the staff was extremely easy to work with. Also a special thank you to all of our HSGA staff & volunteers who helped as Rules ambassadors, starters and scoring area officials for the players.
On behalf of the USGA, HSGA and the golfers of Hawaii, MAHALO for your support of Hawaii Golf!
